A man accused of assaulting a maintenance worker this week was detained after a felony traffic stop in Canyon Country Saturday morning.

The victim was cleaning the area of a shopping center near the corner of Soledad Canyon Road and Sand Canyon Road on Thursday when he was approached by a man armed with a knife.

The male suspect threatened the victim, but the maintenance worker managed to take a picture of the suspect after the assault. The worker was not injured in the exchange.

“The suspect returned today to the same shopping center, so the maintenance worker called,” said Lt. Leo Bauer of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Deputies eventually caught up with the suspect on westbound Soledad Canyon Road just west of Gailxy Avenue shortly after 10 a.m. Saturday.

A traffic stop on a black, older model Ford Expedition was initiated and the suspect was detained and identified by the victim, Bauer said.

No injuries were reported in relation to the incident.
