Power out in Saugus after electrical vault fire

Lights are out in the Saugus area after an above ground electrical vault caught fire, according to a fire official and the Southern California Edison website.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department received reports of a fire at the intersection of Copper Hill Drive and Gold Canyon Drive at 12:13 p.m. and arrived to the scene less than six minutes later.

Fire crews focused their efforts on the electrical vault and reported no active flames as of 12:45 p.m.

The Southern California Edison Outage Center reported a pair of simultaneous power-related issues in the area at 12:11 p.m. The first of the two resulted in 2,097 customers in the dark, the second with 1,711 customers without power.

As of 12:50 p.m., crews were still en route to the area and officials were analyzing the problem. Mos power was expected to be restored by 1:30 p.m., according to the Outage Center.

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station received reports of traffic signals malfunctioning at Copper Hill Drive and Seco Canyon Road near the area impacted by the outage.
