A Northern California-based web hosting company with strong ties to Santa Clarita has developed a simple and secure plugin for WordPress, the world’s leading website-building platform.

The Traitware Inc. plugin, which will streamline the login process by eliminating the need for usernames and passwords while utilizing multi-factor authentication security technology, was developed by a team led by Christopher Canfield, a longtime SCV resident who serves as the company’s director of technology.

“The team has worked incredibly hard to make something so simple and easy to use,” Canfield said in a company-issued news release. “We think everyone will feel that when they use it. There’s no turning back.”

Traitware’s proprietary login technology, unlike similar systems such as Authy or Google Authenticator, splits the authentication secret between a mobile device and a central authentication server to minimize potential “man-in-the-middle attacks,” according to the release.

The plugin is already available for download and installation on WordPress sites across the world.

“We wanted it to be not just the easiest plugin to install, but also the most secure login anywhere,” Danielle Johnson, the company’s technical product manager, said in the release. “I think we nailed it.”

Traitware’s home office is located in Nevada City. The company’s CEO, Bert Spencer, previously lived in Valencia.
