The Signal celebrated its 100-year anniversary on Feb. 7, and to recognize the milestone, SCVTV recently digitized documents and photographs, along with more than a dozen interviews, to create the 43-minute documentary, “The Mighty Signal: The First 100 Years.”

The video highlights interviews with both current and former Signal staff members and editors, including Eric Harnish, spokesman for College of the Canyons and SCVTV President Leon Worden, as well as current Signal Editor-in-Chief Tim Whyte.

In the documentary, Richard Budman, publisher of the Signal, discussed his history with the newspaper, and how much the work means to him.

“My reporters work their butts off every day and they’re not doing it for the money,” Budman said, “they do it because they love the community and they love sharing its story.”

Worden said he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to this documentary when it came along.

“I’ve wanted to be involved in the 100th anniversary celebration for a couple years now,” Worden said. “We had easily 30 hours of interviews.

“If you think about it, we had most of the last 100 years back to 1938 directly represented in the documentary,” he said of the interviewees. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to capture that.”
