In an effort to better meet the needs of students who are in need of assistance, College of the Canyons has expanded and rebranded its Food for Thought Pantry into the Basic Needs Center, or BaNC.

Located in the Student Center’s room 123B, the BaNC seeks to provide currently enrolled students with free food, clothing, personal hygiene items, shower kits, on-site microwave access and other specialty items, according to a news release from the college.

“We have been overwhelmed with student interest and participation so far,” BaNC coordinator Brenda Clarke said. “No student should have to worry about how to meet their basic needs while pursuing their academic goals.”

In addition to the numerous hygiene items and clothing, the BaNC will also offer to help students sign up for housing and social services like CalFRESH and MediCal.

During the spring 2019 semester, the BaNC’s hours of operation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays.

Those interested in contributing items to the BaNC are asked to donate non-perishable, individualized items that are sold in bulk, officials said.

For more information about the BaNC or to find out how to donate, contact BaNC Coordinator Brenda Clarke at 661-362-3261.
