Stevenson Ranch and Copperhill Walmarts and the Santa Clarita Valley Salvation Army are joining forces to provide new school supplies to local children in need during the “Stuff the Bus” campaign event Saturday, Aug. 3.
As part of a nationwide effort, the “Stuff the Bus” campaign event in Santa Clarita is one of nearly 3,000 similar events taking place at Walmart stores across the country.
The Salvation Army and Walmart have collaborated for more than 30 years in an effort to meet local community needs throughout the United States, according to organizers.
Jerry Bloom, head of the Santa Clarita Valley Salvation Army location, has been working with community volunteers to help support local children with school supply donations.
“There are Santa Clarita kids heading back to school this year, and a percent of them will need assistance to start the school year off right,” said Bloom, “By donating school supplies for a child in need, you’re easing the burden parents experience at the start of the school year, and helping set the right tone for these kids as they head back to school. It’s the boost of confidence they need to have a successful year.”
On Aug. 3, participating in-store shoppers, will receive lists of requested items to purchase and drop off at the Salvation Army collection bins for local Santa Clarita children.
The team efforts goal is to assist local families equipping their children with the necessary school supplies for the fall semester.
Walmart help The Salvation Army serve more than 23 million Americans each year through a range of social services, to overcome poverty and economic hardships, according to organizers.
