When Steve Kim purchased Robinson Ranch Country Club, he had plans for big changes in mind — and the name was only the beginning. Kim set about to upgrade the course for Sand Canyon Country Club immediately, revitalizing a course that had been hurt by drought and the Sand Fire.
An entrepreneur, Kim came to the country in 1976 and worked stocking shelves to support himself in college. After obtaining his electrical engineering degree, he built up a pair of successful companies, the second sold for a reported $2 billion in 1999.
His next project, which is currently slated for future deliberation with the Santa Clarita City Council, would bring a five-star resort to the SCV, looking to make the area a world-class destination for tourists, with what Kim refers to as the “wow” factor.
In addition to owning the country club, Kim has also been a significant supporter of numerous nonprofit organizations in the SCV, including the Salvation Army.
