News release
Bryce Jepsen has announced his candidacy for the Santa Clarita City Council’s District 1 seat in the Nov. 5 election.
District 1 represent portions of Newhall and Canyon Country.
A news release from the campaign described Jepsen as a “lifelong Santa Clarita resident, dedicated educator and passionate advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community.”
“Bryce’s candidacy is rooted in a deep commitment to fostering an inclusive and vibrant community where every resident feels valued and heard,” the release said.
Jepsen holds a master’s degree in history from California State University, Northridge, specializing in LGBTQIA+ history, according to the release.
“My campaign is about building a Santa Clarita where everyone belongs … We must work together to end intolerance and bigotry in Santa Clarita,” Jepsen said in the release. “I’m committed to representing District 1’s diverse voices, advocating policies that uplift our community, and turning promises into action.”
As the only Democratic candidate in a non-partisan race, the release said Jepsen’s platform is firmly anchored in progressive values that address the pressing needs of District 1: affordable housing, environmental protection, health care access, educational freedom and support for small businesses.
“Everyone deserves a place to call home,” Jepsen said in the release.
The release said the candidate would push for the closure of the Chiquita Canyon Landfill and the establishment of more health clinics in Santa Clarita.
With the City Council involved in overseeing public libraries, Jepsen opposes any efforts to ban books or restrict educational materials, he said in the release. “Our libraries should be spaces of learning and inclusivity, not censorship.”
