Local students named to dean’s list at University of Maryland Global Campus
More than 9,000 University of Maryland Global Campus students were named to the dean’s list for the summer 2024 term. To be eligible for the honor, a student must complete at least six credits during the term, earned a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the term, and maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 at UMGC.
The following local students were names to the dean’s list:
• Nikkia Carbonell, of Canyon Country, communication studies.
• Hyun Lee, of Canyon Country, computer networks and cybersecurity.
• Nicole Mendez, of Santa Clarita, social science.
• Chad Mitchell, of Valencia, criminal justice.

Braham Orenstein matriculates into Hamilton College
Braham Orenstein, of Santa Clarita, recently matriculated as a member of the Class of 2028 at Hamilton College.
Orenstein, a graduate of Saugus High School, was selected from a pool of 8,531 applicants from all 50 states and 139 countries and joins a community of approximately 2,000 undergraduate students.
Hamilton College is a liberal arts institution in Clinton, New York.
Christopher Watenpool receives degree from Georgia Tech
Christopher Watenpool, of Santa Clarita, has earned a master of science in computer science from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.
Watenpool was among approximately 1,720 undergraduate and graduate students who earned degrees during the summer 2024 semester.
The Georgia Institute of Technology, or Georgia Tech, offers business, computing, design, engineering, liberal arts, and sciences degrees, as well as professional development and K-12 programs. Its more than 53,000 undergraduate and graduate students represent 54 U.S. states and territories and more than 143 countries. They study at the main campus in Atlanta, at instructional sites around the world, and through distance and online learning.
