A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of a stolen vehicle and initiating a pursuit on State Route 14 southbound south of Escondido Canyon Road on Tuesday morning, according to officials with the California Highway Patrol Newhall-area Office.

Officers observed a silver Hyundai sedan reaching approximate speeds of 90-plus mph, according to an email statement by Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez with the CHP.

A CHP officer initiated an enforcement stop and a pursuit immediately ensued, Burgos-Lopez said in a statement.

The driver of the Hyundai drove onto the shoulder and made a hard swerve back into traffic before rear-ending a Jeep SUV, making the Jeep push forward and hitting a Toyota Corolla, according to Burgos-Lopez’s email statement.

The Hyundai then rolled over onto its roof and the 17-year-old driver exited the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident, Burgos-Lopez’s statement said.

The teen sustained minor injuries from the crash, and a female passenger had a complaint of pain from the crash, according to the email statement.

The occupants of the Jeep and Toyota had no injuries, the email statement said.

The Hyundai was an outstanding stolen vehicle, and the driver was also a suspect for a sexual assault that occurred in Palmdale that the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station is investigating, according to Burgos-Lopez’s statement.
