A fuel spill at a gas station brought out personnel from the Los Angeles County Fire Department’s Health Hazardous Materials Division on the 24500 block of west Lyons Avenue on Sunday evening, according to an official with the Fire Department.

A customer was pumping gas and apparently did not realize there was a hole in the tank and departed the property, according to Diedre Williams, a hazardous materials specialist with the Fire Department.

Firefighters were dispatched to an unknown spill at 7:56 p.m. and arrived at 8:03 p.m., according to Howard Tieu with the Fire Department.

Tieu said that Hazmat took over after firefighters called for assistance.

The fuel did not leave the property and was contained, Williams said.

Yellow tape was blocking eight gas pumps as they started the cleanup. Firefighters closed the incident around midnight, according to observations on the scene.

There is no additional information at the time of this publication, according to Tieu.
