An L.A. County Superior Court judge sentenced a Castaic man to two years and eight months in prison for a weapons charge Thursday, as part of a plea deal.
Judge Pamela Usher sentenced Joseph Clifford Bavle, a 45-year-old glass worker, after Bavle pleaded no contest to being a felon in possession of a handgun, with an allegation that he had a previous strike, according to the minute order for her courtroom.
Station detectives filed for an arrest warrant against Bavle after he resisted deputies and fled from a traffic stop on The Old Road in Stevenson Ranch in June, according to station officials.
During a search of the vehicle Bavle left behind, deputies recovered a short-barreled shotgun, a firearm and ammunition from the vehicle, according to station officials.
Deputies indicated Bavle was a felon, which makes gun possession illegal.
As the result of his plea, two charges, for an illegally modified shotgun and resisting arrest, were dropped.
Court records of Bavle’s plea deal indicates his previous strike involved a 2015 conviction for assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance for sale.
Bavle was given credit for more than five months served at his sentencing, before he was remanded to state custody, according to Thursday’s minute order.
