Two people were killed and two other people sustained major injuries in a fatal traffic collision on Sierra Highway just south of Crown Valley Road near Acton in the early hours of Tuesday, according to officials with the California Highway Patrol Antelope Valley-area Office.
Maximus Calzada and Pedro Gomez, both 22, of Canyon Country were the individuals who died in the collision, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner officials.
Upon initial investigation, it was determined that Calzada was driving a black Infiniti Q50. For reasons still under investigation, Calzada lost control of the vehicle, crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a blue Honda Odyssey that was driven by a 57-year-old Santa Clarita man, according to a news release from the CHP Antelope Valley office.
Calzada and his front passenger, Gomez, sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene, according to the release.
A rear passenger in the Infiniti, a Canyon Country man who was also 22 years old, sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital while the driver of the Honda Odyssey also sustained major injuries and was transported for medical treatment, the release said.
Investigators determined that Calzada and Gonzalez were not wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision, the release read.
The involvement of alcohol and/or drugs by the driver of the Infiniti is under investigation, pending toxicology results, according to the release.
