Valencia and Saugus remain undefeated through two weeks of play and have favorable matchups to extend their winning streaks. But don’t forget about the Hart Hawks, who blew out Burroughs at home for their first win of the season behind quarterback Jacob Paisano’s performance.

Golden Valley and West Ranch both head up to the Antelope Valley while Canyon hosts Kennedy looking to rebound after last week’s loss. As for Castaic, the Coyotes embark on a trip up the Interstate 5 later this week for a road game in Fresno.

As for the private schools, Trinity Classical Academy comes out of a bye week ready to hit the road. And Santa Clarita Christian still seek its first win of the year, hosting Mammoth at Hart High School.

Here’s a look at this week’s matchups:

Bishop Amat vs. Valencia

The Vikings are returning home after a big road win at Chaminade.

Quarterback Brady Bretthauer threw for 257 yards and two touchdowns to lead his team to victory over the Eagles. And Valencia is already having a better start this season than last year.

The Vikings were winless in non-league play in 2024 but now are undefeated to start the 2025 season and are making serious noise around Southern Section football. With wins over Simi Valley and Chaminade, Valencia is placed as a top 300 nationally ranked team and No.37 in California via MaxPreps.

This week, the Vikings will be back home hosting Bishop Amat, the No. 54 ranked team in California.

Valencia’s Brian Bonner ran for 132 yards in the win over Chaminade and now has another favorable matchup with the Lancers’ run defense. In the loss to Oak Hills, the team gave up 251 rushing yards to four different players and will be tested again this week with Bonner.

Friday’s game between Valencia and Bishop Amat will kick off at 7 p.m. at Valencia High School.

Camarillo vs. Saugus

Through two weeks of play, Saugus football has already matched its win total from last season. With wins over Buena at home and Oak Park on the road, the Centurions are looking hot to start the new year.

Saugus’ offense has already scored 86 points through two games and holds a positive 51-point differential. This week, the team is hosting Camarillo at College of the Canyons and will be looking toward the partnership of Jake Nuttall and Landon Lattimore to lead the Centurions to a third-straight victory.

Nuttall threw for 198 yards and five touchdowns in the win over Oak Park. Four of those touchdown passes were to Lattimore, who accumulated 109 yards in the game. Both are poised to have a repeat performance this week with Camarillo’s defense giving up 164 receiving yards to five different players.

Friday’s game between Saugus and Camarillo will kick off at 7 p.m. at College of the Canyons.

Hart at Paraclete

The Hawks hit the road this week and have a lot of momentum behind them after a blowout win over Burroughs.

Paisano threw for 203 yards and five touchdown passes in the win and will aim to have a repeat performance.

But the Hawks’ defense will be a must-watch after shutting out the Bears on Friday.

They’ll be tested with Paraclete’s high-scoring offense as the Spirits defeated San Marcos, 49-0. Spirits’ quarterback Joseph Mesa threw for 340 yards and five touchdown passes, and will be a must-stop if Hart wants to come out on top.

Friday’s game between Hart and the Spirits is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. at Paraclete High School.

Golden Valley at Lancaster

The Grizzlies will be one of three Foothill League teams traveling up to the Antelope Valley this Friday, taking on Lancaster.

Golden Valley is coming off back-to-back losses, including a blowout 41-16 result to Crespi where the Celts ran for over 200 yards in the game.

This week, Golden Valley will have another heavy run offense with Lancaster rushing for 285 yards among three players in last week’s loss to Newport Harbor. It is expected to be a tough matchup for the Grizzlies to handle.

Friday’s game between Golden Valley and the Eagles is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. at Lancaster High School.

West Ranch at Antelope Valley

The Wildcats have had a tough two weeks to start the season.

The team’s defense has allowed 101 points through two games, and the offense has just been able to score 23 points.

West Ranch has been without quarterback Blake Johnson and has had sophomore Humza Harsolia start both games. But in last week’s loss, first-year head coach TJ Yonkers’ offense had its running back group contribute most of the offense with 125 yards and a touchdown from Mesziah Ramos.

This week, they’ll have a much more favorable matchup to seek their first win of the season. The Antelopes only scored 12 points in last week’s loss to St. Genevieve, and in that game the offense only had 214 all-purpose yards.

Friday’s game between West Ranch and the Antelopes is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. at Antelope Valley High School.

Kennedy vs. Canyon

The Cowboys’ football team may be winless to start the season, but they may have figured it out on offense.

In last week’s 44-30 loss to Buena, three different players combined for 278 rushing yards. The leading performer from that group was running back Keyshawn Wooten, who had 141 yards and a touchdown. But it was quarterback Carson Soria who led the scoring with two rushing touchdowns in 92 yards on 17 carries.

This week, Canyon’s offense has a promising matchup to break out again and claim the team’s first win of the season against Kennedy. The Cougars’ defense allowed 52 points in last week’s loss to San Pedro.

Friday’s game between the Cowboys and Kennedy is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. at Canyon High School.

Castaic at San Joaquin Memorial

Rounding out the Foothill League teams is Castaic, which will have a touch matchup this week with a road game in Fresno.

The Coyotes will travel north for a game against San Joaquin Memorial, which is coming off a narrow 27-25 win over Christian Brothers.

In the win, the Panthers’ running back group combined for 218 yards and three touchdowns. The run game is an area that Castaic’s defense has had trouble stopping. In last week’s loss to Calabasas, the Coyotes gave up 188 rushing yards and will be tested again this week.

Friday’s game between Castaic and the Panthers is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. at San Joaquin Memorial.

Trinity at Bosco Tech

The Knights are coming off a bye week and pick up action again on the road at Bosco Tech.

Both teams are winless to start the year as the Tigers were blown out, 70-0, on the road to Wilson and gave up 452 all-purpose yards.

And the Knights are coming off a narrow 7-6 loss to the San Fernando at COC and have a favorable matchup to seek their first win of the year.

Friday’s game between Trinity and the Tigers is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. at Bosco Tech.

Mammoth vs. Santa Clarita Christian

The Cardinals have been struck by the injury bug to start the year.

Eleven players were ruled out prior to last week’s game, and with only 15 players suiting up in Saturday’s 41-12 loss to Avalon, SCCS has a short turnaround with their next game scheduled this Friday.

The Huskies are 1-1 in two games and will be a tough matchup for the Cardinals, but the team will have the momentum of Josiah Durruty, who scored two rushing touchdowns in the loss.

Friday’s game between the Cardinals and Mammoth is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. at Hart High School.
