The following letter was sent to Kim Bobic, senior project manager at the Judicial Council of California.
I am amazed that you would even consider putting a courthouse of this magnitude and scale in a family community. Have you people even looked in person at the location you’ve selected?
First, to get to the location most people will exit the Interstate 5 freeway at Valencia Boulevard. That will take you past not only College of the Canyons, an acclaimed junior college here in Santa Clarita, but also several miles of residential homes.
Second, you’re placing it right in the middle of one of the busiest intersections in Santa Clarita.
One can only imagine how long it will take some people coming to the courthouse from all areas of L.A. County. What a gold mine College of the Canyons will be for car break-ins or stolen cars, since the parking lot is open to anyone who wants to drive in.
Let alone exposing the residents who live along any route to the courthouse to unwanted people entering their neighborhoods.
Why this location was chosen defies logic. Santa Clarita has miles of open land that would be more accessible to this kind of use. Putting it in the middle of the city and eight stories high is just plain insane.
