A 34-year-old Sylmar man was arrested on suspicion of multiple drug-related felony charges after Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies executed an early-morning traffic stop on the suspect’s car in Newhall, according to an official with the station.
The charges include transporting and selling methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of methamphetamine with priors.
The traffic stop immediately turned into a “drug bust” after deputies uncovered evidence that alluded to the driver allegedly being involved in narcotics sales, according to a social media post on the SCV Sheriff’s Station Instagram page that was confirmed by Deputy Nicholas Hoslet from the station.
Deputies initially stopped the vehicle to notify and cite the driver of the expired registration and a non-working brake light, according to the post.
When deputies contacted the driver, one of them spotted narcotics in plain view, the post said.
After doing a search of the vehicle, deputies uncovered an amount of methamphetamine equivalent to more than 200 individual doses along with a digital scale, multiple cell phones, and cash in assorted denominations, according to the post.
The suspect also had multiple prior narcotics-related arrests, Hoslet confirmed in a phone interview on Tuesday evening.
He remains in custody with no bail, according to the post.
There is no additional information at the time of this publication, Hoslet said.
