Crash knocks power out in Saugus

A single-vehicle traffic collision in Saugus prompted street closures and a power outage around 10:18 a.m. Tuesday, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department officials. 

Firefighters were dispatched at 10:18 a.m. to a report of a traffic collision involving a fire, according to Keith Navarre with the Fire Department. 

A utility pole near the intersection of Tupelo Ridge and Copper Hill Drive was struck as a result of the collision, according to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. 

Deputies were at the scene of the collision providing traffic control as of about 11:10 a.m.  

Southern California Edison officials were on the scene as well, according to Deputy Nicholas Hoslet of the SCV Sheriff’s Station. 

Navarre said firefighters put out the small fire and called for SCE at 10:27 a.m. with Edison workers arriving a few minutes later. 

There were no transports, Navarre added. 

An outage map at the SCE website indicated most of the affected customers were expected to have their power restored by approximately 11:15 a.m. The outage affected approximately 2,085 customers.  

The outage had been resolved as of the publication of this story on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Edison Outage Status website. 

SCV Sheriff’s Station officials could not confirm whether there were any arrests or a criminal investigation was associated with the collision at this time.  

There was no additional information available at the time of this publication, according to Sgt. Nelson Rios with the station.
