News release
The Santa Clarita Artists Association is hosting a weekend exhibition and reception Feb. 20-22 focusing on the new book, “First & Famous Black Trailblazers of Santa Clarita,” and works by local artists in conjunction with Black History Month, according to a news release from the SCAA.
The featured pioneers — or their family members — have been invited to autograph the historic book during the reception, scheduled 3:30-5:50 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at the SCAA Gallery, 22508 6th St., Old Town Newhall. Light refreshments will be available.
“How many residents know that one of Santa Clarita’s founding fathers was Black?” Gloria Locke, curator of the exhibit, said in the SCAA release. “You will be surprised and inspired by all the first and famous trailblazers – past and present.”
The event will also feature works of original art by Stacie Locke, Bobbie Locke and Gloria Locke: “The Locke Ladies Collective.” These works are available for purchase during the event.
In addition to the reception, exhibit hours are scheduled 5-8 p.m. Feb. 20, 3-6:30 p.m. Feb. 21 and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 22. Admission is free.
