A woman was killed in a hit and run on the southbound side of Interstate 5 on Friday night, and California Highway Patrol officers are seeking the public’s assistance for leads into the investigation, according to a CHP Newhall area-office spokesman.
First responders were called to the scene of a vehicle versus pedestrian call on the I-5 just south of Templin Highway at approximately 11:20 p.m., Carlos Burgos- Lopez, a spokesman for the CHP Newhall office said on Saturday afternoon.
When the first responding unit arrived at the scene, they located a white Toyota Carolla parked on the right shoulder and a woman who appeared to be in her early 20s. She was pronounced dead by the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Burgos- Lopez added.
Officers believe she was struck by what appeared to be a tractor trailer or semi-truck, which then fled the scene, Burgos-Lopez added, and asked for any members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or drove by the area at the time to contact the CHP Newhall office to assist with leads into the investigation.
Why the woman exited her vehicle or if any drugs or alcohol played a factor remains unknown.
Burgos-Lopez asked possible witnesses to contact the CHP Newhall office at 661-600-1600 and request to speak to Officer I. Rojas, who is leading the investigation.
