News release
The nonprofit Rancho Camulos Museum is hosting an event in partnership with the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival at 1 p.m. April 17 to benefit the museum’s historic preservation efforts.
“Experience a unique opportunity to step into an authentic historic Mexican rancho where the history, myth, and romance of early California still linger,” said a news release from Rancho Camulos. “Your afternoon at the Rancho Camulos National Historic Landmark will feature a screening of the entertaining historical documentary ‘Ghosts of California,’ Western music performances by the Placerita Canyon Singers and Kelly’s Lot, and an immersive museum docent guided tour.”
“Ghosts of California,” writer and director Katie Ryan’s newest documentary, relates the untold history of early California. The film explores pivotal events such as the Battle of San Pasqual, the Gold Rush, and the St. Francis Dam Disaster, as well as overlooked figures like the Vaqueros, Chinese immigrant railroad workers and Bodie prostitute Rosa May.
“Using original music and performances by contemporary cowboy singers such as Dave Stamey and Mike Fleming, the beautifully filmed movie brings the past to life with honesty and heart,” the release said.
After the concert and film, guests can explore the Rancho Camulos Museum historic buildings and grounds on a docent guided tour. Light refreshments will be available for purchase.
Admission is $20, and tickets are available at cowboyfestival.org. All proceeds benefit the nonprofit Rancho Camulos Museum. Rancho Camulos is located at 5164 E. Telegraph Road, near Piru, along State Route 126 about 10 miles west of Interstate 5.
