News release

Triumph Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of people living with disabilities, is scheduled to host its 13th Annual Wheelchair Sports Festival on Saturday, April 25, and Sunday, April 26, at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex.

This free, two-day event brings together individuals of all abilities for a weekend of adaptive sports, recreation and community connection, according to a news release from the foundation.

Featuring more than 15 activities — including wheelchair hockey, basketball, quad rugby, tennis, racquetball, baseball, football, power soccer, handcycling, obstacle courses, wheelchair skating, self-defense, scuba, dance, drum circle, and art workshops — the festival is open to participants of all experience levels, from beginners to seasoned athletes, the release said.

The event is designed to introduce individuals living with spinal cord injuries and mobility impairments to adaptive sports while connecting them with resources, organizations and a supportive community. A resource fair with informational booths and exhibitors will also be available throughout the weekend.

“This is Triumph’s major event of the year, giving people with disabilities a chance to push the limits of their ability, try something new, and stay active in a supportive environment,” Andrew Skinner, founder of Triumph Foundation, said in the release. “People travel from all over California to attend  — we’re anticipating over 1,000 participants this year.”

Triumph Foundation is seeking community partners and sponsors to help keep the event free of charge.

The Santa Clarita Sports Complex is located at 20870 Centre Pointe Parkway, Santa Clarita. For more information, visit Triumph-Foundation.org/WSF or email [email protected]
