The Castaic-Santa Clarita Lions Club is scheduled to host a student speakers contest for high school students on Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center at Bella Vida.
The topic of the contest is “Should We Return to Teaching ‘Life Skills’ in the High School Experience,” according to Sam Murray, a member of the Lions Club.
All students are welcome to participate. There will be different tiers of prizes: $100 for the club prize, $150 for the zone prize, $250 for the region, $4,500 for the district, $6,500 for the area, and $10,000 for the final, according to Murray.
“Subsequent levels of the competition are held at approximately monthly intervals. Winners at the higher levels receive substantial scholarship prizes. The rule book for the 2027 competition will be distributed when they become available. They are expected in November (2026),” according to Murray in an email.
Registration is open and students who want to be involved must email Murray at
