West Ranch girls’ tennis extends hot start with win over Hart

Plus, scores from around the Foothill League in girls’ tennis

Following a road victory over Valencia last week, the West Ranch girls’ tennis team continued its winning momentum with a narrow win over the Hart Hawks, 11-7, on Tuesday, and remained unbeaten in Foothill League play with a 5-0 record.  

In Tuesday’s match, the Wildcats (5-1, 5-0) accumulated an 8-1 record in singles play with Hart’s Kate Martinez securing the lone win for the Hawks (6-6, 3-3) in the first round, 6-4, over Kaylie Chung.  

In doubles play, the Hawks ended the day with a 6-3 record, including a sweep in the third round of Tuesday’s match.  

Although the Hawks fell short, Hart remained at .500 for the season with a 6-6 overall record. And in Foothill League play, the Hawks are 3-3 following the first half of the season.  

The Hawks will look to bounce back on Thursday in a home matchup at Hart High School against the Canyon Cowboys at 3 p.m.  

As for West Ranch, the win left the Wildcats unbeaten in Foothill League play with a 5-0 record. 

The Wildcats will look to build upon their momentum with a home matchup on Thursday against the visiting Golden Valley Grizzlies at 3 p.m.  

After Tuesday’s games, here are scores from around the Foothill League:  

Valencia 10, Golden Valley 8: After a loss to West Ranch last week, the Valencia Vikings (8-3, 5-1) returned with back-to-back wins in Foothill League play, including a narrow road victory over Golden Valley (7-2, 4-2) on Tuesday.  

With the win, the Vikings are 5-1 in Foothill League play and will look to continue their winning momentum 3 p.m. Tuesday against the Hawks at Hart.  

As for Golden Valley, the Grizzlies remain above .500 in Foothill League play with a 4-2 record and will look to bounce back on Thursday at West Ranch High School in a matchup against the Wildcats at 3 p.m.  

Castaic 12, Canyon 6: Following a loss to the Hart Hawks last Thursday, the Castaic Coyotes (9-4, 2-3) bounced back with a road win on Tuesday over the Canyon Cowboys (6-9, 0-6).  

With the win, the Coyotes secured their second Foothill League victory of the season and match up against the Saugus Centurions at Castaic High School on Thursday at 3 p.m.  

As for Canyon, the Cowboys remain winless in Foothill League play and will look to bounce back on Thursday in a road matchup against the Hawks at Hart High School with first serve set for 3 p.m.
