News release
When Wade Bradford isn’t teaching English classes at Moorpark College, he’s usually working on a new creative writing project.
In the late 1990s, he began writing stage plays and musicals for youth theater. He’s also written seven children’s books, including a Dr. Seuss Halloween spin-off called “Horton Hears a Boo!” He has sold over 30 plays to publishing companies, including “CSI: Wonderland” and “Sleeping Beauty & the Beast,” both of which were performed at Canyon Theatre Guild. Bradford also acted in shows at the CTG, some of his favorites being: “Run for Your Wife,” “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “The 39 Steps.”
That last one is where he met his friend and writing partner, Christopher Flowers.
After they co-starred in CTG’s “Bullshot Crummond,” they realized that they wanted to make original comedies, madcap farces with actors who weren’t afraid of being cheesy or a little bit hammy. And that’s how Flowers came up with the troupe’s name: the Big Sandwich Theater Company.
“Change the Station,” their first show, debuted in 2016 at the Main Theater, and its success inspired Big Sandwich to create four follow-up shows. Many cast members have joined over the years – but Sanya Arnold and Nancy Lantis are special members, because they have been in every single performance.
A decade later, Big Sandwich now celebrates the 10th anniversary of “Change the Station.” Originally scheduled for a September opening, the show was delayed due to the Aug. 24 fire that destroyed the Main Theater.
TimBen Boydston and the Canyon Theatre board members immediately reached out and offered a new home. So, “Change the Station” changed its location.
Performances at the Canyon Theatre Guild take place on Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 7 p.m. Twenty-five percent of all ticket sales will go to Santa Clarita Shakespeare Company to help replace equipment lost in the fire.
Ticket prices are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors (62+), and $15 for students. For more information or to book tickets, call the box office at 661-799-2702 or visit canyontheatre.org.
