Around 100 Corvette buffs washed, waxed and polished their favorite cars Saturday for the 2016 Corvette Show, benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley.
The event was put on by The Santa Clarita Valley Corvette Club.
Car Show Chairman Joe Ryan expected at least 100 corvettes to be displayed at the event, which was held in the parking lot of Route 66 Classic Grill in Canyon Country.
“(The Corvette) is the only true American sports car,” Ryan said.
“If you’ve ever owned one, you’d get it.”
At least 1,000 people turned out to browse the cars at the show. Corvettes from all throughout the line’s history were represented.
Ryan himself was in possession of the earliest model at the show, a 1954 white Corvette Convertible which he restored with his son.
His vehicle comes from the very first generation of the Corvette line.
Other Corvettes featured Saturday were of a newer variety.
Tony Munshi brought his 2012 Centennial Edition Grand Sport to the lot, but to him the concept of a car show is not to show off his car.
“It’s all the folks that we don’t even know who help us come out and support the Boys & Girls Club,” he said.
The event was expected to raise about $6,000 dollars for the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley.
“(The money) will be put toward our general operations,” David Menchaca, Chief Executive Officer the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley said.
“This is wonderful, it’s great to be a part of something that’s so community based,” he added.
Event officials estimated 80% of the vehicles at the show were from the Santa Clarita Valley.
The event marked the Santa Clarita Valley Corvette Club’s first car show since 2012.
