News release issued by the William S. Hart Union High School District.
SANTA CLARITA, Calif – The William S. Hart Union High School District Governing Board unanimously approved a contract Wednesday night to begin the construction of Castaic High School.
The $126.2 million contract has been awarded to Castaic High School Construction (CHSC). Groundbreaking is scheduled for January 2017 with the first class of 9th graders anticipated for the Fall of 2019.
“We are thrilled to be moving on to this next phase of construction and are that much closer to teaching students at Castaic High School,” said Vicki Engbrecht, Superintendent of the Hart School District. “I want to personally thank those who worked so hard, from our Trustees and District staff, to Lundgren Management and Castaic High School Construction. We’re ready to build a unique and wonderful school for the people of Castaic. In addition to the rich academic curriculum offered at all Hart District schools, Castaic High School will host an innovative Career Technical Education program.”
“Being born and raised here in Santa Clarita, this is nothing short of a dream come true,” said Randy Wrage, development manager for CHSC. “We’re looking forward to creating a state-of-the-art facility, one that will not only serve students, but the community of Castaic as well. I’m very happy about this.”
The new campus will sit on 58 acres in Romero Canyon, part of a 198-acre site graded by Romero Canyon LLC.
“This has been a long time coming, but it has been time well spent,” said Rob Hall, President of the Governing Board. “Finally we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I look forward to adding another great school to the district.”
“I am especially proud of the fact that we are able to add Career Technical Education buildings that will allow our students to be trained and ready to get the jobs requiring these skills,” said Governing Board Member Joe Messina.
