Knight, Caforio to debate
Steve Knight, Bryan Caforio

Following a late switch of the debate’s moderator, Republican Rep. Steve Knight and his Nov. 8 Democratic challenger for the 25th District seat, Bryan Caforio, will square off Friday morning at the Valencia Country Club.

John Musella, a Valencia public relations executive and member of the co-sponsoring Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce, will moderate the matchup following a flap over the originally scheduled moderator.

Originally, Hunt C. Braly was scheduled to moderate, but he stepped away from those duties Wednesday after “the Caforio campaign raised issues” about his presence, Braly said.

Braly is a Santa Clarita attorney who is active in Republican politics. He also serves on Knight’s finance committee.

“It was totally my decision,’’ Braly said. “Nobody told me not to do it.

“I did not want to allow this to be an issue, when the issue should be who is our next congressman.”

Knight and Caforio — locked in a tight and testy battle for the 25th District seat — will duke it out starting at 8 a.m. at the Valencia Country Club at 27330 Tourney Road.

The debate is co-sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and the Southland Regional Association of Realtors, Santa Clarita Valley Division.

Tickets are $25, and are available at the door.
