Almost 300 parents are expected to attend a Parent Summit in the Newhall School District Tuesday.

The event at Wiley Canyon Elementary at 6 p.m., isĀ intended to encourage parent partnership through informational sessions and quick interactive activities.

The summit will include a general informational session about the districtā€™s achievement to date and construction programs, said Paul Cordeiro, superintendent of schools for the Newhall District.

After, parents will have the opportunity to choose from three to five breakout sessions about ā€œsignature district programs.ā€

These breakout sessions will discuss mathematics instructional materials, science instruction under the Next Generation Science Standards, art and music instruction, the NSD Coherent Writing Program and physical education efforts.

The Next Generation Science Standards, which include a heavy emphasis in engineering and problem-solving, are already being implemented at Newhall schools to prepare students for next yearā€™s standardized tests.

ā€œThe board has had the foresight to lay the groundwork for a successful program,ā€ Cordeiro said. Ā Ā ā€œEvery school has dedicated science lab staffed by Teachers on Special Assignment (TOSAs).ā€

Overall the goal of the summit is to inform parents of the best ways to bolster studentsā€™ success and be involved in their childrenā€™s education.

The 2016 Parent Summit is free for all attendees.Ā  It will include a box dinner, childcare and translation services.
