The Santa Clarita Philharmonic will present its first concert of the 2016-2017 season on Sunday, November 6. The orchestra will perform works by American composers and will feature some of our principal musicians as soloists. Included in the program are Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man; Phillips’Concert Piece for Bassoon and Orchestra, featuring principal bassoon Clayton Slusser soloist; Copland’s Variations on a Shaker Melody; Hovhaness’ Prayer of St. Gregory, featuring principal trumpet Jodi Malone soloist; Bullock’s, Shenandoah; and an original composition by our concertmaster, Sarah Wallin Huff, Intrepid, featuring Kathrine Pisaro oboe/English horn soloist.
The major work on the program will be Beach’s Gaelic Symphony, a beautiful and flowing work. The concert will start at 3 p.m. at the Hart High School Auditorium, located at 24825 Newhall Ave., Newhall and is free to the public. For details check our website, www.scphilharmonic.org.
