Castaic Board to review Safe School Plans

Members of the Castaic Union School District Governing Board reviewed four school’s “School Safe Plans” and the district’s Educator Effectiveness Plan at the board’s annual meeting Thursday.

Castaic Elementary School, Castaic Middle School, Live Oak Elementary School and Northlake Hills Elementary Schools all submitted their plans to the board for the district’s annual approval.

The schools, each serving a population of more than 500 students, created proposals and strategies to tackle areas of concern and meet the needs of its students.

At all school the plan’s goals addressed the personal characteristics of students and staff, the school’s physical environment, social environment and culture.

Within these categories included ways to encourage social action, prevent bullying, empower students, address safety, build community, educate students and inform parents.

Additional agenda items

  • Review of the Educator Effectiveness Plan funds to Teachers on Special Assignment (TOSAs) and District Administrator on Special Assignment (DOSA)
  • First reading to adopt revised administrative regulations on special education staff, staff development, sexual health and AIDS prevention, state academic achievement tests and evaluation of instructional program
  • Approval for John Murray Plumbing to replace backflow devices at Live Oak Elementary
  • Establishing date and times of 2017 board meetings
  • Authorizing Jamie Garcia to continue as the voting member designee for the district at all Self Insurance Risk Management Authority (SIRMA) meetings
