College of the Canyons received a training contract valued at nearly $550,000 from the California Employment Training Panel (ETP), the college announced Wednesday.
The two-year reimbursement contract is the 13th of its kind at COC and will fund low-cost employee training and workforce development for local firms in the COC Employee Training Institute (ETI).
“The ETP is critical to ETI and to the business community, and ultimately to the economy of California,” said John Milburn, ETI director in a statement. “Workers are able to get training in high-level training topics such as Lean Six Sigma, project management, manufacturing skills, supply chain management and many other topics.”
According to Milburn, many manufacturers in Santa Clarita benefit from the program every year.
Unique to California, ETI is geared toward job creation and allows COC to provide training for workers at client companies in the Santa Clarita Valley.
With the contract, employers can offset employee training costs by as much as 75 percent through ETP funding.
