Paramedics raced to the Saugus Cafe late Tuesday night for reports of a woman who suddenly became unresponsive, suffering a diabetic emergency and appearing lifeless to onlookers.

The incident began shortly after 5:45 p.m. Tuesday with a woman who was screaming near the cafe on Railroad Avenue, and who then became uncooperative with paramedics when they arrived at 5:50 p.m., Supervisor Cheryl Sims of the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

“This was a diabetic emergency,” she said.

Sims noted that deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station were called to the scene just south of Magic Mountain Parkway.

“We have a female down on Railroad,” Lt. Rob Hahnlein told The Signal shortly before 6 p.m. as deputies were arriving.
