Live music filled the air as people tried a variety of wines while walking around a real, working vineyard at the ninth annual Sunset in the Vineyard in Newhall.

Around 300 people came to Compa Vineyard, located at the conjoined residents of the Carpenters on Arcadia Street, to mingle with friends and munch on gourmet, freshly made food.

“People in town like going to nice, fancy events,” said Jeannie Carpenter, the past president of the Assistance League Santa Clarita.

All of this wine tasting and fun wasn’t just for entertainment though. All the proceeds went to support the Assistance League Santa Clarita, which put on the event.

The Assistance League Santa Clarita dedicates itself to providing clothing, education and emotional support to families, the elderly and the disabled.

For example, they put on Operation School Bell where children in need of clothing can get an opportunity to go shopping at Old Navy.

“We want people to be more aware of the good things we do,” said Carpenter.

The event featured 18 different wine makers as well as some different beers to try out, all taking place at Compa Vineyard which is located on the Carpenters’ property.

Steve Zimmer was proud of the fact he has attended the event five times. He doesn’t have any intention of stopping anytime soon either.

“How could you do better than to be at a home that has slopes full with vineyard,” said Zimmer.
