A bicyclist was injured and taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after being struck by an SUV on Sand Canyon Road near the Sierra Heights Mobile Home park.
The traffic collision happened shortly before 9:45 a.m. Tuesday on the 30,000 block of Sand Canyon Road, Inspector Richard Licon of the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
Paramedics were dispatched to the scene at 9:46 a.m. and arrived there at 9:52 a.m., he said.
“This was for a vehicle versus bicycle,” Licon said. “One person was transported to the closest trauma center.”
The cyclist, whose age and identity were not disclosed but who appeared to be a man, was seen being strapped to a stretcher and placed into an ambulance.
Deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and officers with the California Highway Patrol responded to the crash.
CHP officers began investigating the incident which happened near the upper driveway access to the mobile home park on Sand Canyon Road.
They paid particular attention to the SUV involved in the collision, a white Toyota Highlander SUV with front end damage.
One CHP officer collected the bicycle’s frame in one hand and one of the bike’s tires in the other, according to one witness.
