One man was killed and two others injured Thursday evening following a three-vehicle traffic collision on Sierra Highway just south of Vasquez Canyon Road.
A deceased man was identified only as the driver of a pickup truck.
The crash was reported shortly after 7:35 p.m. Thursday with 911 calls placed to California Highway Patrol.
“It was determined to be a head-on traffic collision involving three vehicles,” CHP Sgt. Mike Munoz told The Signal Friday morning.
“A pickup truck driven by a solo male was traveling Southbound Sierra Highway south of Vasquez Canyon Road,” he said.
“A sedan with two occupants was driving northbound Sierra Canyon Rd. south of Vasquez Canyon Rd. approaching the pickup. A 20-foot RV was directly behind the sedan traveling northbound Sierra Highway.”
For unknown reasons, the pickup truck drifted into the northbound lane side swiping the sedan and then colliding head-on with the RV.
The driver of the pickup was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital where he succumbed to injuries suffered in the crash, Munoz said.
“The driver of the sedan was transported for minor injuries and the driver of the RV was transported for minor injuries,” he said.
CHP closed Sierra Highway for about 4 hours.
