A deputy found a person lying in the road Monday night after the victim was struck by a vehicle on Sierra Highway just south of Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country, officials said.

The incident is believed to be a hit and run, according to officials with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“The collision occurred northbound Sierra Highway in the number one lane,” said Lt. Byron Wainie of the SCV Sheriff’s Station.

The pedestrian, a female, was dead when the deputy investigated.  Lt. Rob Hahnlein of the SCV Sheriff’s Station said the female was a juvenile.

The call for the incident went out to officials at 8:40 p.m.  It is unclear how long the collision occurred before law enforcement officials discovered the body.

At least one vehicle was involved in the collision. No one was in custody as of Tuesday evening and there are no suspects.

According to the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner Investigation, the female’s identity has not been released because next of kin has not been notified.

An investigation for the incident is still ongoing.
