Firefighters responding quickly to reports of an apartment fire Friday afternoon promptly doused a small fire on a balcony, preventing it from spreading to the apartment.

Firefighters with the Los Angeles County Fire Department received a call at 4:12 p.m. of a structure fire on the 18100 block of Sundowner Way in Canyon Country.

“The fire was contained to the balcony,” Capt. John Rossi of Fire Station #107 . “We were able to get an inch and three quarter line within a matter of a minute and we got up there an knocked it down within a minute, front door was already open.”

No apartment tenants or occupants were displaced by the incident.

“They’ll still be able to come home,” Rossi said. “They’ll just find that their balcony has been burned.”

Asked about a possible cause, Rossi said he suspects a small appliance left plugged in on the balcony.

“It looked like some kind of appliance that was outside on the balcony,” he said. “Either a self-contained barbecue or some kind of grill may have been plugged in and that may have been the cause.”
