The Santa Clarita Valley saw a number of incidents throughout Friday night and Saturday morning as the severe weather passed through the area. Nonetheless, sheriff’s officials said it slowed down as the rain began to clear up.
“It stopped raining and it slowed down tremendously,” said Sgt. Brian Hudson of the SCV Sheriff’s Station. “There was no issues.”
There were still some incidents that happened over the night and morning.
A non-injury traffic collision occurred around 12:43 a.m. Saturday morning near Interstate 5 and Highway 14.
There was also a gasoline spill on the Southbound Interstate 5 near Rye Canyon Road. Fifty gallons of fuel spilled on the road around 10:47 a.m. on Saturday according to officials with the L.A. County Fire Department.
Fortunately, the spill was confined and hazmat crews worked to clean it up.
There is still some cleaning up that will have to be done in the Iron Canyon area after the storm. That area has a lot of water, mud and debris strewn about according to Steve Frasher, a spokesperson with L.A. County Department of Public Works.
“Iron Canyon is a big mess,” said Frasher. “That is a direct result of the fire last year.”
The area was prepared for the rainfall with the installation of rail and timber structures that hold debris back and keep the area more secure. These structures succeeded in stopping heavy debris from flowing.
