Community members of the Santa Clarita Valley banded together on Saturday for the Big Hugs Donation Drive in support of local law enforcement.

The local sheriff’s station had a busy week keeping Santa Clarita safeĀ and the SCV Emergency Now Facebook group wanted to show their support and appreciation.

“They really needed the community to say thank you,” said Christine Horowitz, who was the main organizer of the event.

The goal was to give every sheriff’s official at the local station a treat to show appreciation. Thus, the donated items will be brought to the SCV Sheriff’s Station during three separate shifts to make sure no one is left out.

Supporting local first responders is not unusual for SCV Emergency Now. They held donation drives during the Sand Fire and will be hosting another drive for fire officials around May 1.

Admins of the Facebook page, such as Ray Smith, were enthusiastic to see all the donated items scattered across the table at Valencia Meadows Park.

“We have enough for a small sheriff army,” she said.

One basket of goods will also be donated to local California Highway Patrol officials.
