For ten years, NorthPark Community Church in Valencia has held a pancake breakfast on Palm Sunday and this year was no exception.
Hundreds of people joined their community to eat breakfast and go to services in celebration of Jesus Christ’s triumphal coming in Jerusalem.
“To be able to break bread with community is the main idea behind it,” said Pastor Matt Stemme.
By serving breakfast, Stemme says he makes the attendees feel more at home and gives them a sense of belonging.
Community is an important ideal behind NorthPark Church which 15-year-old Peter Backer has greatly benefited from.
He has gone to the pancake breakfast ever since he was five years old and has no intention of stopping anytime soon.
“(My family) comes to church every Sunday but this is one of the best Sundays,” he said.
After ten years of attending services at NorthPark Community Church, Backer says he has found a sense of belonging.
In case you missed the pancake breakfast this year, Stemme assures there will another one next year.
