An autopsy is expected to be carried out on the deceased man’s body Wednesday, coroner spokesman Lt. Larry Dietz.

Deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station were called to Ridge Route Road about 1:30 p.m. Monday after a Castaic resident found the body and called the sheriff’s station, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Homicide Bureau told The Signal Monday afternoon.

Local sheriff’s deputies alerted homicide detectives immediately.

Homicide detectives learned Santa Clarita Station deputies were dispatched to the location in response to a “Person Down in Need of Medical Attention” call.

When deputies arrived at the location they found the victim may have sustained various injuries that included being stabbed. Further investigation will determine cause of death.

Lt. Rodney Moore of the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Homicide Bureau who arrived at the scene – an on access road ½ mile north of the 35500 block of Ridge Route Road, Castaic – about 3 p.m. Monday, said of case: “The victim sustained suspicious injuries to his upper torso and based on his injuries we are now treating this as a homicide.”

The motive for the killing remains unknown, LASD officials said Tuesday.

Paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department were dispatched at 1:26 p.m., a Fire Department spokesman said.

“The call came in as a cardiac arrest,” he said.

When paramedics arrived at the 35500 block of North Ridge Route Road, near Pinecrest Place, however, they found the man dead, the Fire Department spokesman said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station were notified.
