Smoking equipment leads to lights out in Rancho Tesoro area of Valencia

Electrical equipment issues in north Valencia knocked power out to about 3,000 customers Friday afternoon, according to Southern California Edison’s Outage Center.

The power outage began at 12:03 p.m. following reports of smoke emitted from an electrical box near Copper Hill Drive and Avenida Rancho Tesoro, county fire officials confirmed.

Emergency crews responded to the 23800 block of Copper Hill Drive shortly after the initial reports and contacted Southern California Edison.

As of 12:11 p.m., 2,474 customers were impacted. That number rose past 3,000 about an hour later.
