Parents in the Saugus Union School District are invited to the first opportunity to meet their newest superintendent at one of three upcoming Coffee with the Superintendent meetings.

All three of the events will take place prior to the beginning of the school year, Saugus spokesman Lee Morrell said, as Plum Canyon Elementary School will host the first discussion 6-7 p.m. Thursday, West Creek Academy’s will follow at the same time on Monday and Mountainview Elementary School will hold the final meeting 9:45-10:45 a.m. Thursday.

“The dual purpose of these meetings will allow parents and guardians in the district to meet the newly hired Dr. Hawkins as well as engage in a discussion about her vision for the upcoming school year, and beyond,” Morell added. “The district has taken part in Coffee with the Superintendent events for several years now, but this is the first opportunity for Dr. Hawkins to host this highly anticipated event.”

Hawkins started her career in education at 1993 and was appointed to the position of superintendent on July 1 this year.

Prior to the promotion, Hawkins served as the assistant superintendent of educational services for the Compton Unified School District since 2015. Hawkins held the same position with the West Covina Unified School District and was a director and coordinator in Corona-Norco Unified School District between 2002 and 2013.

“I look forward to continuing (the Saugus) tradition with this exemplary organization,” Hawkins previously told the Signal. “I’m most excited to meet the students, parents, staff and community members who create the Saugus Union School District family and to becoming part of the Santa Clarita area.”
