All the letters to the editor regarding this business of voting for or against the the street lighting assessment has raised my concerns that some kind of mischief might be afoot here. I say this because I received the first letter indicating there would be a ballot that I might use to express my will in this issue. However, I read that there have been ballots sent out that have aroused the citizenry and then another ballot to replace the first ballot.
What is strange though, is that with all these ballots whizzing by, nary a one has landed in my mail box! If what I have read is correct, those ballots not returned voted shall be counted as a “YES” vote. How can this be? If this is really the case, it would seem to me that the city, to be fair, must send the ballots out certified mail, return receipt required. Otherwise, how can the city prove that everyone eligible to vote was given their due chance to do so? Are we going to let City Hall flimflam us on this one?
