In Greek mythology, Narcissus was so entranced by his own image he could see nothing else, and the nymph Echo was so enamored of him she was only able to repeat his words.
In modern times, our diary-penning narcissist was named Anthony Fauci, and his Echoes endlessly repeated, “Trust the science … thanks for keeping us safe … if it saves one life it’s worth it … we’re all in this together.”
