William S. Hart Union High School District governing board members are slated Wednesday to recognize their student trustee, discuss an increase for board member compensation and consider adoption of an early-release schedule for Rancho Pico Junior High School.

Brennan Book, the Valencia High School senior who has served as the Hart District’s student board member for the last year, will be thanked for his involvement in the governing board process, according to board President Bob Jensen.

“Every year a student is chosen to be the rep for the student body for the entire school district on the governing board,” Jensen said. “Brennan was an outstanding board member, and he was interested in the well-being of the school district, asked excellent questions and provided tremendous information to the board members to help us fulfill our responsibilities to the students, the stakeholders, and the community that encompasses the William S. Hart School District.”

Book will be presented with a commendation certificate and his portrait, which has been displayed throughout the year in the hallway of the district’s administrative center, according to the school board agenda.

In addition to recognizing Book, the district will also decide whether an additional $115.75 will be added to their compensation per month — to be split among all five board members — as well as whether to adopt the early release schedule voted on and approved by Rancho Pico certificated staff.

The increase in compensation for board members from $463.05 each per month to $486.20 each per month is to cover cost-of-living adjustments, according to officials.

The change in Rancho Pico’s schedule for the 2019-20 school year would allow, for the second year, that the final period of the day would end at 1:50 p.m. on Tuesdays as opposed to 2:55 p.m. The extra hour allows for collaboration time for faculty members, according to school-site officials.

The William S. Hart Union High School District Governing Board meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the district office board room located at 21380 Centre Pointe Parkway.
