Firefighters extinguished a 3-acre blaze on a steep hillside along Interstate 5 near Smokey Bear Road and Pyramid Lake late Monday afternoon. Crews from the U.S. Forest Service and the Los Angeles County Fire Department made quick progress despite a potential for growth to 50 acres at one point, according to the LACFD.
