Santa Clarita Valley residents are invited to participate in the upcoming Ride for a Cure event, which will be hosted by the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center in an effort to help fight breast cancer during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The event begins at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at the Santa Clarita Athletic Club, and will include the opportunity to bike for two hours all while helping a great cause, according to a news release from Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital. Riders have the option to obtain sponsors, who will pledge donations, and enjoy raffle prizes, free dinner, dessert and music from DJ Anthony.

Event organizer Janet Cheveres said the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center plays a critical role in early detection and successful treatment, which is why the fundraiser to assist it has been held for about four years now.

“When I discovered that several regular attendees of my classes went in for routine screenings at the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center and received early diagnoses of breast cancer, I was inspired to do more to help the center fight this disease,” Cheveres said, mentioning last year’s event raised more than $11,000 for the center.

“I’m looking forward to another successful event this year on Oct. 18,” Cheveres added. “It’s that time of year again where we urge you all to come out, clip in and get your sweat on for this worthy cause. It’s fun with a purpose!”

Advanced registration is required for the event, according to hospital officials. A donation of $35 is expected and all proceeds will be donated to the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center to help provide early detection for underserved men and women. More information can be found by calling 661-803-7433 or visiting bit.ly/2mg6MXa.
