National cybercrime experts are joining the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce for “Take Control Before It Controls You,” a cybersecurity forum, on Wednesday.

As cybercrime has become one of the biggest challenges facing businesses, local proprietors are invited to hear about practical steps they can take to protect their companies from a cyberattack.

The forum is expected to focus on providing real-world information to help protect a business’s sensitive information, financial transactions and computer software.

The presenters include: keynote speaker Kent Rhodes of Pepperdine University Graziadio Business School; Desraie Thomas of Datto cybersecurity; Michael Wong of Webroot cybersecurity; Howard Miller of local insurance agency LBW; and Jeremy Stepan of local IT support company Resurgence.

Topics set to be discussed include protecting your company’s data with disaster recovery, reviewing known threats with protection solutions and how cyber insurance can provide protection in the event of a breach.

The Cybersecurity Forum is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. with a continental breakfast, followed by presentations from 8 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at College of the Canyons’ University Center, located at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road. Tickets for the forum are $55 for members and $65 for non-members.
