State Fund, a nonprofit that provides workers’ compensation insurance, has launched an online resource center for Assembly Bill 5, with an “AB 5: Who is an Employee?” webinar scheduled Tuesday.

AB 5, signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom in September and set to go into effect on July 1 for workers’ compensation, limits how companies can label workers as independent contractors.

The Employment Status Resource Center is expected to prepare employers for the upcoming changes to the labor code and assist them in determining how employment status impacts their workers’ compensation policy.

In addition, the resource center includes information on how to determine employment status and the impact it has on a workers’ comp policy, as well as links to legislative information, according to a news release.

Businesses can also participate in free, interactive AB 5 training webinars, scheduled 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday and again on May 26.
